EXPERIENCE:
Steve is the founding partner of Mandell P.C. and has more than 25 years of experience in various areas of commercial law including media and advertising, intellectual property, information technology, class actions, and insurance law.

Steve is nationally recognized for his work representing the television and radio broadcast media, print media, book publishers, film producers, and other content providers in the defense of claims of defamation, invasion of privacy, and associated torts across the country, as well as pre-publication review, securing press access to court records and governmental information, and other First Amendment matters.

In his intellectual property practice, Steve represents clients in copyright, trademark, patent, and trade secret matters. With respect to matters involving copyright law, Mr. Mandell has represented, among others, software companies, authors and book publishers, record companies, video game developers, and advertising agencies in the defense and prosecution of copyright infringement actions. He has counseled both traditional brick and mortar businesses and online companies on all types of trademark issues including general trademark selection strategy and more specific trademark clearance, registration, licensing, and litigation including the prosecution and defense of infringement and dilution proceedings. In patent litigation, he has represented clients in a variety of industries including healthcare, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, consumer products, software, and high-tech. Steve has also represented some of the world’s largest software development and consulting companies in disputes involving complex software licensing agreements including actions involving enterprise software system failures, the alleged infringement of copyrights in licensed software, and misappropriation of trade secrets.

An accomplished writer and lecturer, Steve has taught legal writing and advocacy at the Georgetown University Law Center.  He also has appeared on numerous radio programs, conducts newsroom training, and is a regular forum speaker on a variety of topics involving media law litigation, intellectual property, and information technology.
